THE TOT
Shop safe products, learn from experts and be supported on your parenting journey
The Tot makes it simple to discover safe, quality products for families at every life stage. We create informative, educational content and handpick products that pass our high safety standards and are designed to last. We will always be transparent in where our products are sourced and the materials that are used.
We don’t compromise and neither should you.
WHY GOING NON-TOXIC MATTERS
Children are particularly susceptible to chemical exposures for several reasons.
Their bodies and brains are still developing.
During the first few years of life, more than 1 million nerve connections are formed every second. The endocrine system (which affects everything from mood to metabolism to fertility and reproduction) still has a lot of development to do.
Small changes to the body or brain during the first year caused by exposures to man-made toxicants can have long-term impacts into adulthood.
They aren’t equipped to process toxic chemicals like adults are.
We have special enzymes in our body that quickly break down many toxic chemicals, like pesticides and formaldehydes (although full disclosure: many toxicants can’t be broken down in the body and are "forever chemicals"). But children have much lower levels of these detoxifying enzymes. As a result, chemicals can linger in their bodies longer.
They spend more time being exposed to potentially toxic materials.
If you have a baby or a toddler, you know: they put everything in their mouth! So if their teething toy is filled with toxic materials, guess what's going to happen?
Plus, children spend much more time sleeping than we do. During the first year, a baby will spend 12-18 hours asleep per day. If their crib contains toxic materials, your child will spend hours per day breathing these dangerous chemicals in.

Introducing The Tot Test
Not all products are made equal. Materials and chemical ingredients are often untested and loosely regulated. Due to greenwashing (marketing designed to make a product seem more eco-conscious than it actually is), labels can often be misleading.
Many companies continue to mass produce products using harmful materials that are cheaper to source and more readily available. These materials often carry a toxic burden that can wreak havoc on our children’s bodies.
Your children deserve better. That’s why we created The Tot Test.
Researched. Tested. Loved.
You can trust that all materials and ingredients in our products are safe for you and your family.
We’ve done the work so you can provide the best for the ones you love.

Researched.
We've built a tightly curated selection from over 200 vendors, ranging from small family run businesses to trusted established brands. We seek out high quality, safe and practical products that are important to growing families.
We partner with purpose-led companies that are making an impact on our lives, our health and the environment. They are transparent in the materials they use and the manufacturing process they follow.

Tested.
Once we find a potential partner, we don’t stop there. We independently review each product before you will ever see it on our site. That means hours of time reviewing lab results and analysis of hundreds of materials and ingredients. To ensure transparency for our customers, we feature the test results on every product page.
Chemists and public health experts are making new discoveries daily about which chemicals are safe (and which we should avoid). That’s why our product line is ever-evolving. When we find out about a new toxicant, we update our products accordingly. Your child’s safety is our top concern.

Loved
Once we love a product, we want to share it with you. We want you to know the story behind it, the people that make it and how it can positively impact your life.
We work with our experts to write content that is educational, practical and engaging. But it doesn't stop there - we want to listen and create a two-way conversation on how we can help you on your parenting journey.

NASIBA’S STORY
The Tot Co-Founder
"When I became pregnant with my first child I started being more mindful of the products I used in my home and on myself. I was shocked to discover that most labels didn’t tell the full story. Many products, even from trusted brands contain harmful chemicals. I didn’t want to start shopping for my new baby until I had done the research on exactly what each product contained and whether it was truly safe.
With so much information available, it was hard to know who to trust.
With a team of like minded mothers, I started The Tot as a resource for parents who are passionate about natural parenting and non-toxic living.
The Tot is a community where you can learn, shop, interact and trust that we will always be honest and transparent. We’ve built relationships with brands to provide the best products and hand-picked experts to provide advice - all in one place."
